Graphic RecordingIt is a visual technique used to help groups see the big picture.

Recording is usually defined as capturing a conversation on large pieces of paper in a way which allows all present at a meeting or workshop to simultaneously see and work with what has been contributed.

Visual language, diagramming and metaphor are essential parts of graphic recording. Simple images, colorful printing, and thoughtful listening quickly transform group conversation into a tangible working document, commonly called the group memory, meeting chart or displayInternational Association of Facilitators

“Graphic Recorders are modern-day cave artists, visionaries, scribes, teachers, learners, illustrators and historians … all keepers of the precious written word and imaginings of voices and hearts. Our practice has roots in ancient traditions of paying attention, reflecting, recording and ‘remembering for the future’. We help bring ideas forward, help collaboration, help direct the ‘light’ to the individual and collective wisdom in this world.”
Leslie Salmon-Zhu (co-founder of International Forum of Visual Practitioners)

Graphic Facilitation

it is special facilitation technique that utilizes the power of visuals to help groups of people see their thoughts and ideas – then work in collaboration with each other to find inferences and possibilites

“Graphic facilitation weaves the recording and strategic conversation together in a continuous cycle – generate, capture and reflect – enabling individuals with diverse thinking styles to work together with greater synergy and effectiveness” – International Association of Facilitators

“Graphic facilitation creates ‘rich pictures’ of complex situations that allow people to discuss specific issues without losing the context…develop a visual image of the problem, so they could then better focus on discussing the solutions. The real appeal of graphic facilitation is that it’s more than a fancy way to take notes; it’s a technique for helping groups reach consensus and resolve disputes” – Geoff Ball
