Visual Summary
Media rules the world of communication today!
And that media is fast, visual and audio-visual.
So the habit of ‘reading’ – that beautiful wonderful journey of bringing words to life is slowly reducing, especially among the youth and the busy. Many methods have today sprung forward, to aid people in developing this habit.
One I really enjoy is the summary of a book – it gives me a clear idea of what a book is saying – and if I need to invest my time in reading it -for pleasure, enjoyment or learning!
But the amount of information that a summary can provide is pretty less – and it does not always stick to our memory.
Most of us know that the first step to understanding anything is to SEE. And that thought made me realize the value of visually seeing the summary of a book.
While we do Visual note-taking (VizN) to aid in capturing talks in conferences, meetings, strategic discussions, webinars and the like, we realized that it would be powerful to capture a book in a visual way.
So we have begun to work on what we call as “Sumpreso” – a visual summary of a book, talk, seminar or conference.
As a sample and as part of my Equip leadership training, I have made a visual summary of a book, a book by someone I love, admire and consider as my mentor – Dr. John C Maxwell.
That book is “Put your DREAM to the Test”
And like I earlier mentioned, the reason we are doing this – is to enable many to
- SEE the visual idea of the entire book
- REMEMBER the key ideas and messages
- USE it as a ready-reckoner to bring out the messages in the book
- GUIDE to reading and studying the book
This visual summary is in no-way a replacement for a book – for the contents of each book is vast, powerful and wonderful.
