Storyboard@PocketMod

One of the needed tools for presentations is the storyboard. While the storyboard has been used beautifully by all media professionals and digital storytellers, it has been avoided by presenters. One reason is the wrong way of creating presentations – text, bullets and information dump!

A storyboard is a platform to craft a story with the right visuals, language, audio etc. Used rightly, it can weave a powerful visual story presentation. Now Cliff of BBP has created a beautiful storyboard to use with PowerPoint 2007, and I would recommend the same for all of you. Personally, I always create my storyboard using pen on paper before getting onto PowerPoint.

Now recently I just checked out this very useful and creative site called POCKETMOD

And that was one real, cute experience. They have crafted a way to use an A4 sheet of paper in ways, which are concrete and dependable! Now that’s what I call ‘thinking out of the box’

Now I really admire what these folks are doing, and the one thing I found very useful for me was the storyboard which can be created on an A4 sheet. I now create my storyboard using that pocketmod tool.

So what about you?

The Burger method

Pr.Andrew Devanbu of Koramangala Methodist Church (KMC), Bangalore facilitated a session on Criticism in Relationships. He took the young professionals through the Bible; providing them with tips to handle criticism. It was powerful and practical.

Ashley finally concluded by giving 3 points
1. Don’t take criticism personally
2. Use ‘I words‘ when you talk – ex: I feel neglected, I am sorry etc
3. Use the burger method – Compliment, Criticize, Compliment

Then Ashley facilitated a game called “contributing to the Big picture“. It was fast, fun with lots of great team work. Finally we understood why we all criticize naturally, but compliment rarely!

So my one challenge is this:
When you are about to criticize anybody – STOP – think of one relevant positive trait in that person and spell it out honestly and then if you need to – use the burger method.

Thanks.

The ‘handwash’ story

Sep 4, 2009   //   by STORYPRESO   //   Blog, design, Sblog, Visual  //  No Comments

Stories should not just communicate, but be relevant to the audience and the subject.

One of the biggest concerns today is the H1N1 Flu and WHO has done lots of things to communicate to the global audience with stories that interact, guide and help.

I believe, one way a story can really impact is when it is useful and applicable to the audience.

The other day when the first swine flu death hit Bangalore, we really began to ‘try’ washing our hands more often than our normal way. For me personally, it was a joy, since I did like washing hands. But the big question was – were my hands really clean? So began another round! Now, I found a way – the right way.

You see WHO has published a beautiful document on “How to wash hands correctly“. It is very clear and tells the simple story of washing hands in a clear, simple visual.

This is useful and applicable and I have began to put it into practice with some practicable modifications. (The only problem is when there is no access to clean water or soap)

Hope this helps US to wash hands the right way!

(‘US’ – the ones who have been blessed with flowing water, soap and tissues – how thankful we should be for these!)

I have a dream

Sep 3, 2009   //   by STORYPRESO   //   Blog, Sblog  //  No Comments

Throughout history, when an idea is born – it is guided and shaped by helping leaders. I believe very little can be done by a loner, but much by a helping group of leaders. Fortunately, God has surrounded me with people who will provide the needed help.

My dream is to create and share Visual Story presentations that stick.

How do I do that?

Bridge – The art of storytelling with visual presentations

Discover the core messages that stick

Design visual presentations that impact, convice and sell

Equip with skills to present a story

YES, this is my dream.

It is greater than all of my gifts.

Won’t you join in helping me?
